I Started My Family Ancestry Research In 2013

Orrrrrrrr was it earlier than that?!?!?

BLOG Dated May 13 2020

My official title as Family Historian aka the Irish Family Ancestry Detective officially started in 2013 or maybe even earlier than that?!?!

Back in 2014, during a wonderful evening with Uncle Bill and his partner Jeff, I asked Bill if he had any family photos to share. Indeed he did and from his storage area below their condo in San Francisco, brought up a large zippered bag that once contained a blanket. Inside this bag were loads of photos, papers etc all unsorted inherited from Great Aunt Evelyn after her passing in 2000.

After attending a play in the city, Bill and Jeff dropped me off with the bag late in the evening. The next day being Easter, I had plans to get up early to clean house before my parents came over. Our plans was to celebrate Mom's birthday with drinks and then go out to dinner.

HOWEVER curiosity of what exactly was in this bag 😉got the best of me. Opening it up while trying not to let out screams (lest I wake up the neighbors) I came across so many wonderful, rare and amazing gems!  There were tons of photos and documentation that I had never seen before including this gem below.

Yes that's right everyone, I was doing family ancestry research at an early age and didn't even know it!  I have no memory of when I might have done this but it had to have been in the mid 1970's!  Perhaps, a middle school project at the time when any school report was written in ink not typed.

What I do find amazing is that this little two page bio on Great Grandma Nell had now come full circle! Great Grandma Nell kept it until her death. Then it was passed down to Grandma Barbara, to her sister Evelyn and then found among Uncle Bill's collection of family photos and documents! So fun too, to see too all the X's and O's at then end.😁

Stay safe and be well!

On November 16 1898, Florence gave birth to a baby girl whom they named Madeline.

A second daughter Anita was born on Oct 1 in 1900.

The marriage to Florence may have been a happy one in the begining. But she soon showed her true colors, becoming  a very difficult and challenging woman to live with.

Florence began to misappropriate the household funds, using the money given to her for other purposes all the while attacking Frederick with abusive words and cruelty. She described all policemen as bums as you will see in the news article below.

After 12 years of a loveless marriage, Frederick had had enough.  With more than ample evidence, Frederick was granted a divorce in December of 1908. Florence was granted custody of their two daughters.

Florence passed away the following year

on September 16.

These two historic photos of Frederick come from the collection of my distant cousin Sandra of Texas. This was her grandfather who was the older brother of our Great/Grandpa Charles Cook!

Sitting proudly upon his horse, Frederick's work as policeman began in 1907 and it would not be long before he would be promoted to Corporal.

Many articles in the San Francisco newspapers would describe his wonderful dedication to both his job and the public!
