PART 5 OF OUR GERMAN ROOTS The fourth Generation:
The family of Gerhard and Maria Continued

The Bruemmer Children

In my previous blog postings titled Our German Roots Parts 1 through Part 4, I focused on the first four children of Gerhard and Maria, Elizabeth, John Henry, Anton and Otto.
From my ongoing research, I have included findings on their spouses and the generation (s) that followed.
As you could see, the generations of Bruemmers, among our Grandfather's siblings, is both amazing and fascinating to read about! I estimate that there are close to 150 or more Bruemmers in both Missouri and Illinois alone!
In addition TWO of our Bruemmer ancestors had infamous connections!
Mildred Elizabeth Bruemmer (daughter of Anton and Annie) was married to George Alexander Cleesen. His father George William worked for the Robert Gair Paper Mill. This was where in 1879, after a worker accidentally cut through 20,000 paper seed bags, Robert Gair developed a method to cut and crease cardboard in a single operation introducing the world’s first affordable cardboard box. A full day's production was reduced to a mere two and a half hours!
We also have a small indirect connection to the Disney film Snow White as well to actors Humphrey Bogart and Ann Sheridan!
In my Part 4 of Our German Roots Blog posting, I wrote about Anton Bruemmer (son of Otto and Mathilda) who married Marguerite "Margie" Elizabeth" Wegs. Their impromptu wedding took place in Palmyra Missouri with the help of friends Mr. and Mrs. Irl Hunsaker.
While the name of Irl Hunsaker may not be familiar to you, he was well known in Hollywood as The Little Man With the Big Voice! It was while searching him via google, that I came upon his obituary dated September 26, 1990. As it turned out, while Irl was a native of Liberty Illinois he and his wife Ida Mae moved to Sonoma upon his retirement. The connection to Snow White is described in the obituary below.
