NEWLY REVISED PHOTOS
OF OUR IRISH ANCESTORS

You have heard me speak of the infamous 1800's album many times over the years.  So many of these photos are quite small with just the head shot, while others show a wee bit more. Yet, over the many years this album sat in Grandma's attic, no one thought to ask her, Evelyn, Eleanore or even Great Grandma Nell who exactly these people were?!!

BUT NOW thanks to My Heritage and Ancestry.com, there are new colorization and enhancement programs. Utilizing both of these on 58 individual photos (with more to come!) we can now see a more accurate depiction of what are our ancestors looked like!!

Admittedly, there a few photos that still need work but so many came out amazingly clear that I decided to create a video (my very first video ever!) of the photos I was able to colorize and enhance!

Of course the next quest in the continual ancestral adventure is to determine who these individuals might be. Some pop up in additional photos with the current cast of Thomas Filben, his wife Hanora (Flannigan) grandparents to great grandma Nell and their daughters/sons.  A colorized and enhanced photo can certainly makes the puzzle a little bit easier to figure out!

For now, I leave you with this old Irish Blessing

On November 16 1898, Florence gave birth to a baby girl whom they named Madeline.

A second daughter Anita was born on Oct 1 in 1900.

The marriage to Florence may have been a happy one in the begining. But she soon showed her true colors, becoming  a very difficult and challenging woman to live with.

Florence began to misappropriate the household funds, using the money given to her for other purposes all the while attacking Frederick with abusive words and cruelty. She described all policemen as bums as you will see in the news article below.

After 12 years of a loveless marriage, Frederick had had enough.  With more than ample evidence, Frederick was granted a divorce in December of 1908. Florence was granted custody of their two daughters.

Florence passed away the following year

on September 16.

These two historic photos of Frederick come from the collection of my distant cousin Sandra of Texas. This was her grandfather who was the older brother of our Great/Grandpa Charles Cook!

Sitting proudly upon his horse, Frederick's work as policeman began in 1907 and it would not be long before he would be promoted to Corporal.

Many articles in the San Francisco newspapers would describe his wonderful dedication to both his job and the public!
