This condition often happens as a result ,of contracting malaria. Through further research, I learned that starting in 1870, the city of San Francisco experienced a serious epidemic know as the Three Graces. These were malaria , small pox and leprosy. The source of these diseases was due to the large amount of immigrants arrival at the port of San Francisco.
But three years later on Christmas Eve 1873, the Holmes Cook family would be blessed with another child, a son whom they named Frederick
